wheelchair basketball has one of the highest profiles in the world of
Paralympic sports.
This sport is governed by the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) and is played by the rules and player classification adopted by the IWBF. The IWBF's regulations govern the game, including the court size and basket height, which are the same as the running game of basketball. While wheelchair basketball is similar to the running game, it is characterized by its own unique style. Zone and man to man defences incorporating help principles are commonplace. Possessing a unique dribbling rule to accommodate the movement of players in wheelchairs, this high-intensity sport reveals its own system of attack. It often includes three guards and two forwards in order to increase movement on court.Unlike the running game which consistently incorporates a back-to-the basket centre, wheelchair basketball's forwards or centres generally face and move towards the basket. The pick and roll is it's most effective offensive tactic. |
